Turns out, Beckett still has the same feelings for Maddie that his teenage self did, but now he’s got the confidence to do something about it. But when Beckett’s high school crush and longtime friend, Maddie, comes to stay at the family home, it’s like no time has passed at all. Beckett’s father is battling dementia and his health is failing, so it’s not like he’s got time to date anyways. While he’s happy that his buddies have found lasting love, he doesn’t believe that the odds are in his favor to find that for himself. The story follows Beckett, the final single guy in his group of friends. I still loved a significant amount of it, but this one is missing the swoons for me. It’s STEAMY and angsty with some heartfelt moments, but I can’t help feeling that the lust and longing overshadowed the emotional connection. This childhood friends to lovers romance features a sexy and stubborn hero who just can’t seem to get his head out of his… you know. I love how each book had its own vibe, yet there are so many commonalities that tie everything together. This is my least favorite of the four, but the bar is set VERY high, so I can’t be too upset about that. It’s a bittersweet goodbye – I’m sad to see this group of guy friends go, because every book in this series has been great.
